Chief Instructor Profile

The Chief Instructor of Rembuden is Glen Henry.

Glen has been training in the martial arts for 37 years since enlisting in the Royal Australian Air Force in 1971 and has practiced the following arts and styles:-

Judo, Tae Kwon Do, Kyokushinkai Karate, Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate , Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo, Shinto Ryu Kenjutsu, Uchida Ryu Tanjo, Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido and Zen Nippon Kendo Renmei Seitei Iaido and Jodo

Glen's interest in Koryu (Traditional Japanese styles) began after meeting and being inspired by Sensei John Jarvis who was amongst a group of foriegners headed by the famous Donn F Draeger, and other pioneers who were gradually admitted into the classical and ancient schools in Japan during the 1960's . This group has been a continuing influence on his training over 30 years

 

Glen has taken the name REMBUDEN in appreciation to Sensei Jarvis who founded REMBUDEN in New Zealand and REMBUKAN in Australia in the 1970's and introduced Kyokushinkai & Goju Ryu Karate, Jodo, and Iaido to the Pacific regions.

Glen has been fortunate to have instructors who have spent considerable time in Japan, and have afforded him the links to these schools to this day. Glen travels regularly to Japan to train with senior teachers and to participate in international seminars.

He holds dan rankings in Karate, Jodo, Iaido and in May 2005 received the Shomokuroku scroll from Sei Ryu Kai headmaster Nishioka Sensei, in Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo

Glen is qualified under NSW Dept. of Sports and Recreation Education, holding Fitness Leader Cert.3 and Austraiian Sports Medicine Federation, Sports Trainer Cert 3

Glen holds a current "Blue Card - Suitable persons approval" in accordance with QLD Gov. Dept of Child Protection.
